The Bamberg Rathaus
The ancient Town Hall of Bamberg, also known as the "Island Town Hall" dates back as early as 1386. Fraught with a compelling lineage of world class history this dynamic building was the center peice of two worlds destined to collide. According to local history this Island building was erected by the citizens of Bamberg because the Bishop of Bamberg refused to grant them a building site for the construction of a Town Hall. The Isle city of Bamberg inhabited by the working class, and the Bishop's city on the hill, inhabited by the dominate clergy of the Bishopric established in 1007 by the King of Germany, Henrich II, finally came to odds as a new age of personal independence was awakend.
